What will you learn on the workshop MS EXCEL – Automated dashboards using Power Query?

Workshop MS EXCEL  Automated dashboards using Power Query is designed for advanced EXCEL users, who already worked with pivot tables, charts and dashboards, and who want to learn how to automate repetitive creation of dashboards using Power Query. Coding skills are not necessary.

This workshop will show you:

How to understand the layout, naming and purpose of  functionalities in the interface of Power Query?

How to connect to the data from different sources (EXCEL table, another EXCEL worksheet, .txt or .csv file, several files from one folder)?

How to use the connection to create simple automated dashboards, that can be updated within few seconds?

 
Objectives

Basic orientation in the interface of Power Query (PQ)

  • How to understand the difference between the Transform Tab and the Add Column Tab
  • How does the query recording work and where to find recorded queries
  • How to show Formula Bar in PQ to observe and make basic changes directly in the M language
Import of data using Power Query (PQ)
  • How to use EXCEL table as source of data for PQ
  • How to connect to another EXCEL workbook (e.g. alarge one) and use it as a source of data for easier processing
  • How to import file in text format (.txt or .csv) and use it as source of data
  • How to import several files of the same type and structure – Import from Folder

Basic data transformation of data using Power Query (PQ)

  • How to set up data types properly
  • How to split data to columns using several conditions
  • How to decide which type of import is the best for your use case – Import to the Table, PivotTable report, PivotChart, or Only create connection

Creation and refresh of the simple dashboards

  • How to create simple dashboard from data imported to the PivotTable report and PivotChart
  • How to refresh your report in few seconds

How do I lead the workshop?

I lead the workshop ONLINE LIVE, via Zoom (in case your company prefers different meeting app, let me know on info@love2teach.sk).  The training lasts 3 hours and it’s split into two 90 minutes blocks, to maximize participants attention. I strongly prefer that participants work together with me during the sessions on their computers. In this way they can work on the assignments on their own and ask me the questions directly.

What do you need for the workshop?

Since the workshop is held ONLINE, participants need:
  • reliable internet connection
  • installed version of MS EXCEL. I lead workshops with the version MS Office 365, but the participants could use older/other versions. In case you are not sure about the EXCEL version, contact me on info@love2teach.sk

Communication with the participants during the workshop could be led via chat. In case you prefer live QnA, make sure that your employees will have microphones.

Who is your instructor?

Mgr. Veronika Baláž

I’m a passionate instructor of MS Excel and Power Query, based in Bratislava, Slovakia. With a background in the didactics of mathematics and science, combined with extensive experience in analytical roles within multinational environments, I merge insights from both fields in my consulting sessions and trainings.
I offer both predefined training programs for groups and individuals, but my favorite method is hands-on support tailored to clients’ daily tasks. By employing a learning-by-doing approach, I support employees in applying general knowledge of MS EXCEL and Power Query to their own work files.
